MCA Youth has lodged a police report against blogger Papagomo for allegedly posting a racist remark on hisFacebook page, which they said could spark racial violence.

In an open Facebook chat that Papagomo initiated, the Chinese in Malaysia were called ‘pendatang’ (migrants) and this incited others to ask for Malays to ‘unite and fight against Chinese’.

“Papagomo agreed to this comment,” MCA Youth central committee member Chong Sin Woon (left) said, holding up magnified prints from the Facebook chat pages.

“Action should be taken immediately by the government against this kind of clearly racist remark.”

Vulgar wordings against the Chinese were also used and some even suggested that races other than Malays be given separate identity cards (ICs), Chong said.

This kind of remarks can harm the “fragile” peace that prevails among the races in Malaysia, he said.
Chong said the report was made as MCA hoped that the government would send a strong signal by punishing such wrongdoers under the Sedition Act (1948) and not tolerate any kind of racist remarks posted on the social media which could easily be shared.

Chong did not identify Papagomo by his real name. “I don’t know who is Papagomo but then it is not that difficult to get him out as he has been very active in Facebook and blogs,” he said.

Pro-BN blogger Papagomo had previously announced hisretirement from blogging and has said that he would focus on his clothing business. The blogger has been sued by opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim for purportedly posting defamatory material.

“Don’t think that the harmonious society that we have now is strong. It is very fragile... you (just) need a spark to destroy all that we have now,” Chong said.

He added that besides in Kuala Lumpur, reports would also be lodged in other states to prompt the police to investigate.
