Riot: 1,300 computers for villagers and NGOs in Serian
SERIAN SARAWAK : A computer each will be given to all villages and non-governmental organisations (NGOs) in the Serian parliamentary constituency.
Its MP Datuk Richard Riot said apart from deserving students, the Village Development and Security Committee (JKKK) and NGOs also need the facilities.
He said some 1,300 unit of computers would be distributed by the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) in the constituency, with 400 units for villages and NGOs.
Riot, who is also Deputy Foreign Minister, said a total of 60,000 units had been allocated for Sarawak under the second phase of the programme.
“However, the computers are not for personal use but for effective running of the JKKK and the respective organisations,” he said before presenting laptops to 20 students at SMK Serian here yesterday.
Meanwhile, MCMC deputy regional director, Adiman Ajem said the commission had distributed 14,500 units of laptops to deserving students in Sarawak last year under the first phase of the programme.
He said under the National Broadband Initiative, several projects such as the Community Broadband Centre, Wireless Villages, CBT to Home, Broadband Library and the Community Broadband Mini Centres, would be implemented to benefit the people.
