PETALING JAYA: Bersih 2.0 has called for the abolition of postal voting following the Election Commission's (EC) gazetting of new categories of postal voters.
Its chairman Maria Chin Abdullah said that Bersih was concerned that the EC had in December 2017 gazetted more categories for postal voting.
According to her, apart from the police and armed forces, the new categories for postal voting included civil servants of departments which are likely to be working on polling day.
These, she told a press conference on Wednesday, included employees of the Prisons Department, Fire and Rescue Department, Maritime Enforcement Department, government health workers, Royal Malaysian Police Volunteer Reserves, the Malaysian Civil Defence Department, Immigration Department, National Disaster Management Agency, and the National Registration Department.
"We have to make allowance for those who cannot vote. But these processes have to be fair and transparent. Advance voting could replace postal voting," she said.
