Deputy Home Minister Datuk Wira Abu Seman Yusop said the open-concept Narcotic Addiction Rehabilitation Centre would be the national hub for providing thorough treatment and drug rehabilitation programmes, besides becoming a referral and counseling centre for drug addicts.
"It is not only open to drug addicts, but also to other clients of National Anti-Drugs Agencies like family, employers and individuals who have direct relations with the addicts," he said at the Tokoh Anti Dadah 2009 media awards here Saturday.
He said anyone who was referred to or voluntarily applied to seek treatment at the centre would have to undergo initial screening, evaluation and placement test.
"These will determine the category of the treatment to be prepared for them, whether inpatient, outpatient, daycare or supportive treatments," he added.
At the awards ceremony, Bernama journalist Newmond Tibin won the Best Reporter Award while Ravichandran DJ Paul won the Best Drug Write-Up Award.
Each received RM1,500 cash and certificate.
