Malaysia-instinct.com has been made to understand that Datuk Seri S. Samy Vellu, 76, has finally agreed to quit the position of MIC President which he has holds since 1979.
The understanding to quit was achieved in a closed door meeting between Samy and Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak together with  Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin at the Prime Minister Office, last Thursday, at Putrajaya.
It was part of a compromise that if Samy wants G. Palanivel as candidate in Hulu Selangor , then he should step down from his position in MIC.
Although there will be difficulties for BN to win the Hulu Selangor seat through Palanivel, but the withdrawal of Samy from the MIC top post will bring a positive impact to BN at national level in the next general election.
That is the main factor why Najib and Muhyiddin agreed if Palanivel to be placed as a candidate for Hulu Selangor by-election.
Samy is expected to announce his withdrawal as the MIC President in the very near future, according to a source.
Samy is married to Datin Seri Indrani Samy Vellu, who is also active in socio-political and various Non-Governmental Organisations.
Samy Vellu has one son, Vell Paari, 45, who currently manages MAIKA Holdings and is advisor of Putera and Pemuda Malaysian Indian Congress.
He is also has been appointed as Chairman of Unity and Community Development of Malaysian Indian Congress by its Central Working Committee.
His daughter-in-law, Shaila Nair, 33, is also active in Puteri MIC, a special wing of MIC dedicated to Indian Women of Malaysia who are below 35 years old.
Samy was first appointed to the Malaysian cabinet in 1979, as the Government and Housing Minister.
He then went on to serve until 1989, as the Works Minister. From 1989 to 1995, he became Malaysia's Minister for Energy, Telecommunication and Post. In 1995, he returned to the Works Ministry, where he remained until he lost his parliamentary seat to Dr. D. Michael Jeyakumar in the March 2008 general election.
He was the second longest serving minister in the country after Tan Sri Rafidah Aziz.
