MAFREL ADALAH AGENDA CIA DAN PERLU DI HAPUSKAN

Noh asks EC to review role of Mafrel

2010/04/05

KUALA LUMPUR: Umno Supreme Council member Datuk Seri Noh Omar urged the Election Commission (EC) today to review the role of Mafrel after the election watch body criticised the government for approving a housing and a school project in Hulu Selangor recently.
Noh, who is the party's Hulu Selangor parliamentary by-election director, said Mafrel, or the Malaysian for Free and Fair Elections, was unfair in its criticism and acted as though it was a voice of the opposition.

He said that Mafrel's allegation that Barisan Nasional (BN) had infringed election regulations showed that Mafrel does not understand their own power and that of the EC, police and local authorities."

"Why is Mafrel asking the EC to take action (against the BN)? If Mafrel is not satisfied, they should lodge reports with the police or the local authorities.

"I don't think Mafrel has been to the ground to see for themselves the situation in Hulu Selangor now.

"Just look at who has put up the most flags? Yesterday, even the Parti Keadilan Rakyat advisor was there to campaign," he told reporters in parliament lobby today.
Noh, who is Selangor Umno deputy chief, was commenting on the statement by Mafrel chairman Syed Ibrahim Syed Noh who urged the EC to act against the BN for announcing projects in Hulu Selangor.

Noh said if Mafrel wanted to play its role as an independent election watch body, it should also criticise the Selangor government as it had also announced aid and assistance during an event attended by Menteri Besar Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim.

"That is why, Mafrel is not qualified to be an independent monitoring body," he said.

Meanwhile, Cheras Umno division chief Datuk Syed Ali Alhabshee urged Mafrel to stop being "a seasonal busybody".

He said Mafrel should submit a comprehensive report to the EC if they found that the government was not transparent in facing the election.

"Each time there is an election or by-election, they will ask the EC to take action against the BN but after the election, they just become quiet," he said. - Bernama
