In KOTA BAHARU, Deputy Finance Minister Datuk Dr Awang Adek Hussin said the government was targeting to eliminate totally hardcore poor families in Kelantan by the end of the year.
He said that out of the 4,396 household heads who were categorised as hardcore poor previously, the number had now dropped to 50 household heads in the state.
"We hope that by Dec 31, 2010, there will be zero hardcore poor household heads because of the continuous efforts carried out by the federal government to tackle the problems of poverty in the state," he said when launching the Kelantan ''Special Job Placement Programme -- Resoluteness to Work''.
The text of his speech was read by the Kelantan Deputy Director of the Federal Development Department, Yahya Mamat.
