KUALA KANGSAR: Three primary school boys drowned when they went swimming in Sungai Perak near here on Saturday.
They were Suhairi Nizam Baharudin, 12, Mohd Aazar Ibrahim Alang and Mohamad Imran Rosli, both aged 10.
Suhairi and Aazar were from Kampung Pauh Pulai, Ara Panjang, in Manong, about 20km from here. Suhairi was a student at SK Lempor while Aazar went to SK Ara Panjang in Manong.
Imran was from Kuala Lumpur and was a student at SK Wangsa Melawati there.
Imran's family had gone to Manong to meet a family friend on Saturday. The three boys decided to go for a swim in the river that afternoon.
Kuala Kangsar district police chief Superintendent Abdul Ghaffar Muhammad said the spot they chose was about 400m from the homes of Suhairi and Aazar.
