LGE dah ikut style LKY

"Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng has instructed his lawyer to see if any action can be taken against several newspapers which had published news allegedly stating that the state government's newly formed Non-Islamic Religious Affair portfolio would challenge the position of Islam."

Lim said he had compiled articles from Utusan Malaysia, which has given an impression that the move by the state government had challenged the position of Islam in the country.

"I want to see if any action can be taken based on the law for not publishing the explanation of the matter," he told a press conference today after visiting the Seafood centre and Craft Gallery in Batu Kawan.

"I have explained many times the portfolio has been established by the Perak government under its Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abdul Kadir," he added. "When they (the newspapers) attack, they did not mention at all about the same portfolio by Zambry."

"Why is it when BN does it, it is right, but when Pakatan Rakyat does it, it is wrong?"

Lim added that the move was criticised based on baseless allegations and also questioned how the portfolio is detrimental to the Muslims in the country.

The decision by the Penang exco to set up the portfolio was made recently in conjunction with the United Nation's World Interfaith Harmony Week.

The portfolio is set up to handle matters related to religious communities that include Buddhists, Christians, Sikhs, Taoists and Hindus.

Lim helms the portfolio in Penang while the portfolio in Perak is headed by state executive councillor Datuk Dr Mah Hang Soon.

He called on his predecessor Tan Sri Dr Koh Tsu Koon to explain why he had said the move by the present state government was a "publicity stunt".
