MIRI: The Barisan Nasional is not leaving any loose ends unattended and this is evident in its recruitment of a special team to look into cyber warfare in the coming state elections.

This team comprising 166 members of all Barisan parties attended a one-day workshop entitled ‘New Media’ organised by the strategic communications section of the Sarawak National Security Council.

Deputy Chief Minister Tan Sri Dr George Chan said: “We must counter the Opposition on the same level playing field. I depend on you guys to help us to blog, tweet, get on Facebook, network and reach out to our voters and convince them to vote for us.”

Dr Chan, who is the SUPP president, said at the closing of the workshop that the local team had the advantage as it knew the sentiments of the local people better.

“We have the advantage and I hope you will use your creativity to reach our target voters,” said Dr Chan, adding that the coming election was different as the Opposition was larger in numbers and was reaching out to voters in an unconventional way mainly through alternative media like blogs.

“We cannot take them for granted. We must unite and work hard to counter them. I depend on you to help us out,” he said, adding that the party would provide the hardware and training and it was up to the team’s creativity to use it.
