Perak to meet MMC-Gamuda JV on double-tracking project

LENGGONG: Perak will meet with MMC-Gamuda Joint Venture Sdn Bhd on the Electric Double Tracking Project (PLBE) which will run through the state to resolve several issues and problems immediately.

Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abdul Kadir said the meeting aimed to resolve issues on the PLBE especially the problem of land acquisition, resettlement of villagers and problems arising from the route for the tracks.

"The meeting will be led by the State Secretary.

In addition, the meeting is also to obtain information on the latest development and the progress of construction works on the tracks and the state government hoped all problems and issues can be resolved," he told reporters after chairing the weekly State Exco meeting at Tasik Raban, here yesterday.

He said the meeting, which would be a continuation of a series of meetings held earlier, was being planned because the state government did not want problems in the delay on the construction of the PLBE which would give a positive impact on development in the state and on the people.

On Monday, Transport Minister Datuk Seri Kong Cho Ha had said the physical development on the Ipoh-Padang Besar Electric Double Tracking Project stretching 329 kilometres, had now reached 65.2 per cent completion at the end of last month while full completion was scheduled for Nov 7, 2014.

The Ipoh-Padang Besar Electric Double Tracking Project, which was originally scheduled to be completed in December 2013 passing through Perak, Kedah, Penang and Perlis, hit a snag over land acquisition and had been rescheduled. — Bernama
