KUCHING, May 27 (Bernama) — Thirty former teachers who were among the first batch of educationists sent to Sabah and Sarawak after the introduction of the National Education Policy in 1974 will hold a reunion dinner tomorrow.

Organising committee spokesman Adam Yusoff said the reunion was organised in conjunction with the Teacher’s Day celebration and all the 30 former teachers were from the then Sultan Idris Teachers Training College in Tanjung Malim, Perak, now known as Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris (UPSI).

They had served the two states including in remote areas such as Ulu Kapit and Pusa, both in Sarawak.

“Their starting salary at that time was RM310 but their commitment to the teaching profession was undisputed as they were willing to serve in remote areas,” Adam told Bernama, here, Friday.

He said former students or friends who wished to meet them could call him at 013-8416630 or Cikgu Zainal Rahim at 019-5535953. – BERNAMA
