NAJIB-WALK ABOUT - SUBANG

After lunch, Najib gave a speech and mingled with the crowd before continuing his walkabout to the  traders and hawkers' centre in Kampung Melayu Subang.

During the 4pm visit there, he shook hands with the traders, hawkers and residents, and even managed to play a game of draughts with a customer at one of the foodstalls.

The customer, Hassan Ijoh, 66, said he did not expect the prime minister to spend time to go to the ground and mingle with the ordinary people.

"This is the first visit by a prime minister here since the country's independence, that was the time of the country's first prime minister, the late Tunku Abdul Rahman. I couldn't believe it (Najib's visit) and I am delighted," said Hassan, who originates from the village.

After spending 15 minutes at the hawkers' centre, Najib went on to visit a respected religious leader in the village, Hashim Karim, 57.

Hashim who guides Muslims on the Haj and Umrah rituals through his instructions given at the Tabung Haji complex in Kelana Jaya and Shah Alam State Mosque, was also naturally delighted with the visit, describing it as very special for him.

"I had sleepless nights since knowing two days ago that the prime minister would be visiting me at my house...so many things went through my mind like what to serve the prime minister.

"Thank God, Datuk Seri Najib liked the 'roti jala' (net pancake) with 'serawa durian' (durian cooked in coconut milk and sugar) that my family served him," said Hashim who has performed the Haj and Umrah 136 times.

During the 30-minute visit, Najib also gave Hashim some magazines and religious books.
