LUMUT, Sept 14 (Bernama) -- One hundred and fifty-seven foreigners are among 982 cyclists who will battle it out at the Pangkor International MTB Jamboree & XC Race (PIMBC) 2011 endurance race in Pulau Pangkor.

The three-day event begins on Friday.

PIMBC chairman Muhd Sanusi Kamarul Azaha said the international cyclists comprised 60 from Indonesia, Thailand (43), Singapore (32), Russia (12), four each from France and Hong Kong, and two cyclists from Australia.

He described the total participation as "very encouraging" as it exceeded the initial target of 500 participants.

"This certainly makes the track an international race on par with other countries," he told Bernama here today.

Muhd Sanusi said the race was included in the state's tourism calendar and the Malaysian National Cyclists Federation.

The endurance race will be officiated by Perak Arts, Culture, Youth and Sports committee chairman Datuk Zainol Padzi Paharuddin.

Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abdul Kadir will give away the prizes to the winners on Sunday at Dataran Pasir Bogak, Pulau Pangkor.
