Libyan rebels are storing Muammar Gaddafi's body in a walk-in refrigerator at a shopping mall in Misrata. They were supposed to bury him today, as per Islamic tradition, but the AP says the interim government delayed the interment so the "circumstances of his death" can be determined. (Check YouTube!) So they've parked him in a strip-mall fridge and are trying to keep the hordes outside from getting in to tear him apart.
The latest video to emerge of Gaddafi's capture shows him being dragged alive and bleeding from the head by an ecstatic crowd. According to the AP, it's not quite clear what happened to him after he was found in a drainage tunnel by rebels yesterday:
New footage posted on Facebook shows the moments when Qaddafi was dragged by revolutionary fighters up the hill to their vehicles. The young men screaming "Moammar, you dog!" beat the confused-looking Qaddafi, who wipes at blood covering the left side of his head and neck and left shoulder.
Qaddafi gestures to the young men to be patient, and says "What's going on?" as he wipes fresh blood from his temple and glances at his palm. A young fighter later is shown carrying a boot and screaming, "This is Moammar's shoe! This is Moammar's shoe! Victory! Victory!"
The next point that most accounts agree upon is that Qaddafi died about 30-40 minutes later as he was being taken in an ambulance to Misrata. A coroners report said he bled to death from a shot to the head, and he also had shots to the chest and belly. Accounts have been confused, however, over where and how those fatal shots were suffered. Local fighters at the scene told the AP that Gaddafi had already been shot three times when he was found. But others, including the interim prime minister and other members of the provisional government, are saying the shots that killed him came after he was apprehended, when his ambulance was "caught in crossfire" between loyalists and rebels. That's probably because they'd like to avoid the perception that Qaddafi was executed by a mob, which is certainly what it looks like
