MAS ranks 9th most admired company in the country

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia Airlines has landed in the 9th spot in the top 10 most admired Malaysian companies under Wall Street Journal's Asia 200 Survey.

The Wall Street Journal Asia 200 survey offers a performance review of Asia's leading companies. The companies were rated following key leadership criteria: innovation, long term vision, quality, corporate reputation and financial reputation.

A total of 2,742 executives and professionals participated in the online survey which was held between April 9 and June 4, 2010. This survey of business readers in Asia had been conducted since 1993 by the Far Eastern Economic Review until it changed format five years ago.

This is the fourth time the survey will be published by The Wall Street Journal Asia.

"We are delighted to receive this recognition from the readers of the Wall Street Journal. It's definitely an honour to be one of Malaysia's top 10 companies," Malaysia Airlines Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer Tengku Datuk Seri Azmil Zahruddin said in a statement today.

"It has been a very exciting year for us, as we welcomed the first arrival of our new B737-800 in October. This marks the beginning of our fleet renewal programme.

"We are certainly looking forward to receive the new A330-300 in April 2011 and the A380s in 2012. By 2015, we will have the youngest fleet in the region," he said.

Tengku Azmil said the airline was constantly finding ways to keep up with the latest technology.

"We have upgraded MHmobile, our mobile service where travellers can now enjoy additional features. At the same time, we introduced MHkiosk, the first ipad kiosk by an airline.

"With more new products and services in the pipeline, our customers can expect a more seamless travelling experience with Malaysia Airlines," he added.

Malaysia Airlines has garnered numerous accolades as a global carrier. This year, the airline was accredited with "Staff Service Excellence for Asia Award 2010" and "World's Best Economy Class Award 2010" by Skytrax.

It is also recognised as the "Best Airline in Southeast Asia" by GT Tested Awards, Global Traveller Magazine and ranked 7th in the Top 10 Airlines Worldwide category for Best in Travel Poll 2010 by Smart Travel Asia.

The airline has also been voted the "World's Leading Airline to Asia" by World Travel Awards. -- BERNAMA
