SELANGOR GOVT DENIES TAKING OVER GARBAGE MANAGEMENT

SHAH ALAM, Dec 15 (Bernama) -- The Selangor government today refuted claims that a state government subsidiary company, Worldwide Holdings Sdn Bhd, will take over the contract to manage garbage disposal from Alam Flora Sdn Bhd.

Selangor Menteri Besar Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim said the state government was still giving the garbage disposal management contract to Alam Flora with the contract renewed every month.

"This issue is always discussed because one-third of the overall revenue of local authorities in Selangor is allocated to the supervision of garbage disposal services.

"However, until today we are still using the services of Alam Flora for this purpose," he said at a media conference after chairing the weekly State Executive Council meeting, here today.

Abdul Khalid said this when asked to comment on a report in a local newspaper today that stated that the Selangor government would terminate the garbage disposal contract that had been given to Alam Flora since 1998 and award it to the state goverment subsidiary company.
