Year of NKRA

LIMBANG, The year 2011 will become an important year in ensuring that all National Key Result Area (NKRA) projects achieve their targets, said Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin here.

He said the priority was on projects that involved the people's needs such as schools and transportation system.

"The year 2011 becomes an important year in the implementation of NKRA projects and we will ensure that basic amenities that were postponed in the rural areas are completed as soon as possible," he said in his speech at the groundbreaking ceremony for the Bisaya Community Cultural Centre, which was attended by about 2,000 people from the Bisaya ethnic group, here this afternoon.

He said the government would not ignore any project that had been included in the NKRA regardless whether they were in Sarawak, Sabah or peninsular Malaysia.

Muhyiddin said what the government desired was to ensure that the poverty rate could be reduced, especially in the rural areas.

Muhyiddin said that the commitment to assist the rakyat was not only the task today that must be settled today, but it was an everlasting commitment as long as the Barisan Nasional (BN) government was in power in the country.

Referring to educational development, Muhyiddin said the federal government, through the Education Ministry, had already carried out an audit to identify which were the areas that should be given priority.

He said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak had given instruction that schools that needed immediate assistance should be given priority especially those schools that were facing flood problems and were lacking in facilities.

Meanwhile, Muhyiddn said that the federal government had already approved an allocation of RM300 million for Limbang in the first round budget.
