RM300mil spent on rural homes

BANGI: The government aims to provide 9,146 homes under the Housing Assistance Programme (PBR) to the people in rural areas.

Under the GTP’s NKRA on improving rural basic infrastructure, the government has allocated RM300mil for the construction of 5,692 new houses and restoration of 3,454 existing houses.

Rural and Regional Development Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal said 1,618 houses were to be built in the Peninsular while 2,345 houses would be in Sabah and 1,729 in Sarawak.

He said the house restoration exercise comprised of 914 in the Peninsular, 449 in Sabah and 2,087 in Sarawak.

As of May 27, Shafie said his ministry had completed the construction of 548 houses and restoration works on 531 existing houses.
