PAS Dewan Muslimat will strive for a bigger say and participation in the party and state administration.

Its deputy chief, Siti Zailah Mohd Yusoff said women''s roles in the party and government was getting more and more important and challenging.

"This is in line with the 2009 Beijing World Conference on Women''s that set a target of having 30 per cent women in decision-making positions," he told reporters at an Aidilfitri open house hosted by the Association of Wives of Elected Representatives and Government Officers (Penawar) at the Menteri Besar''s residence here today.

Siti Zailah, who is also Member of Parliament for Rantau Panjang, said the demand was not something new and the party should appreciate the fact that women accounted for more than half of the electorates.

"As such women should be accorded equal status with men in the party as they outnumbered men in certain expertise and skills," she added.
