Its secretary, Mohd Tarmizi Abd Rani, said this was because unpaid rent for 1,068 MDKP-owned premises and shops had reached RM300,000 so far this year.
"We have given ample time and opportunity for the tenants to settle their rental arrears, but they just won''t cooperate.
"This operation is also aimed at re-coordinating the stalls and shops in the district, especially those which had been operating without permits," he told reporters after conducting the first operation to seal eight premises with rental arrears in Sungai Korok, here today.
He said one of the tenants whose premises was sealed today had failed to settle an outstanding amount of RM RM20,800, that had accumulated over nine years.
