Petaling Jaya (The Star/ANN) - Malaysia's opposition leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim is a god-sent leader who was born to lead the people, declared Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) president Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail.

"If he was an ordinary human being like us, he would have long retreated and drowned amid challenges and turbulence," the chief of the opposition party said in her speech at PKR's 7th national congress.

Only 1,209 delegates out of 2,033 delegates attended the congress.

Anwar, who is Dr Wan Azizah's husband, is also the party adviser.

Dr Wan Azizah said Anwar posed the greatest threat to the position and survival of Barisan Nasional.

"In the country's political history, there has never been a leader and a party other than Anwar and PKR that posed such a severe threat. That is why they are relentlessly attacking him," she claimed.

She said PKR was no longer a mosquito party as claimed by many.

"Now, they can see we are the hornets nest. We can sting," she said.

Dr Wan Azizah also called for the abolition of the ketuanan Melayu concept, saying it was a slogan used by a small group of powerful elite Malays to fool the masses for personal gain.

She said the focus should be on enhancing moral values, adding that the Malays and bumiputra were facing serious social, education, economic and cultural issues.

She also expressed concern over the failure to make Bahasa Melayu the main medium of communication and education, and as the language of knowledge and unity.

She said a high cost would be incurred to rehabilitate the negative impact of teaching science and mathematics in English.

Dr Wan Azizah also called on members to adopt a winning psychology in facing the 13th general election. She called on the new leaders in the party to utilise resources and harness the potential of all the members regardless of factions.

She also called on members not to air grouses in the media. On complaints of irregularities during the recent party elections, Dr Wan Azizah said stern action would be taken against perpetrators irrespective of their position in the party
