KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 26 (Bernama) -- Datuk Ahmad Ismail has maintained that he will not resign as president of the Sepaktakraw Association of Malaysia despite coming under pressure to do so following the poor performance of the national squad at the recent SEA Games in Indonesia.

The call by certain quarters for him to step down from the post just because the national squad did not win a gold medal at the games is misplaced, he said on the "Kerusi Panas" (Hot Seat) programme over Bernama Radio24.

Ahmad asked his critics to look at the failure of the sepaktakraw squad in the wider context.

"Did Malaysia fail to win the gold medal only in the sepaktakraw sport at the SEA Games? What about other sports which failed to win medals?

"I have the answer for those wanting me to resign. I will only step down after our sepaktakraw squad achieves success," he said.

Ahmad also said that the sepaktakraw coaching committee will review the coaching model to improve the country's performance in the sport.
