Learn From Bitter Lesson Of 2008 – Zambry
All candidates, leaders and supporters of Perak Barisan Nasional (BN) should learn from the bitter lesson of 12th general election in 2008.
Perak BN chairman Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abdul Kadir said they should unite to ensure victory for BN candidates who contest on the party ticket and not on their personal capacity.
“Show unity especially after the name of candidates are announced. Learn from the lesson of 2008 and don’t let BN fail in Perak,” he told reporters here today.
Zambry, who is also Perak Menteri Besar said those not listed as candidates should show a good example by being loyal BN supporters.
Perak BN learnt a biter lesson in 2008 general election when Pakatan Rakyat wrested the state government after winning 31 seats.
The DAP won 18 seats, PKR won 7 seats while PAS won 6 seats. BN won 28 of the 59 seats contested.
However, the Pakatan state government collapsed 11 months later when four state assemblymen, two from DAP and two from PKR quit to become BN friendly independents.
This left Pakatan with 27 seats, opening the door for BN who has 28 seats to takeover the Perak state government on Feb 6, 2009.
Asked about PKR de facto leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim who is expected to contest a parliamentary seat in Perak, he said it is his democratic right.
“I heard that he (Anwar) wants to contest Lumut parliamentary seat.”
Zambry urged the opposition to respect BN’s democratic right by following the rules and regulations and refrain from engaging in the politics of hate.
Anwar last night announced that PKR will field first admiral (rtd) Mohamad Imran Abdul Hamid as the candidate for Lumut parliamentary seat.
Earlier, Zambry officiated the groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of a new mosque in Jalan Baru Gerik/Kulim.
He then officiated the groundbreaking ceremony for a bridge across Sungai Perak linking Kampung Chenawing to Tanjung Rimbun and Kampung Batu Enam in Bandariang
