Penang police raided a bungalow in Semanggol, Perak, last Wednesday (30 October 2015 ) and seized heroin valued at RM300,000 and utensils for processing drugs.

The raid followed the arrest of a 50-year-old businessman at his office in Green Lane here at 6.30pm on Wednesday, said Penang Narcotics CID deputy chief Supt Lee King Chuan.

At the bungalow, police seized 9.324 kg of heroin, 42.682 kg of caffeine, nine bottles of acid and various utensils for processing drugs, he told a news conference.

The man, who had a criminal record involving drugs in 2002, was a used car dealer as well as a money-lender, he said.

Lee said the police also seized a BMW car, a Mitsubishi Pajero vehicle, two Rolex watches, a Rado watch, RM41,000 in cash, Euro currency, a bracelet and two laptop computers, all valued at RM315,500.

The man, who was believed to have been involved as a chemist in the drug-processing activity, was being held under remand up to Tuesday, he said.

Lee said the police were trying to determine if the man operated alone or was involved in a syndicate.-
