A NEW city is taking shape at Meru Raya in Jelapang near Ipoh.
Named BioDCity@Meru Raya, the project will be sited on a 84ha land.
Perak Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abd Kadir said the project was the state’s initiative in shaping a new economy for the state.
“We have identified several areas which are able to give good returns to the state such as hydro and social life,” he said.
Dr Zambry said BioDCity was part of the state’s effort to see it being equally developed.
“We will have new growth centres in each district where new townships will be built to replace cowboy towns, which have turned into an eyesore,” he said.
“Instructions have been given to the State Economic Development Corporation to start the projects this year.”
Dr Zambry said the initial phase involving housing, hypermarket and education projects, would be completed in 2012.
“The project stresses on being environmentally friendly and green,” he said.
By having new economies, Dr Zambry said more job opportunities would be created.
“Perakians need not migrate to other states or countries to make a living,” he said, citing the Twin Creeks (M) Sdn Bhd manufacturing facility, which was launched by Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin last month.
The facility, added Dr Zambry, would create 1,000 vacancies.
