Over 10,000 at Perak's CNY open house

The 1Malaysia Chinese New Year Celebration, a five-hour programme, ended about 7pm. It was organised by the state government and the MCA.

Guests were treated to a show by acrobats and lion dances performances. The 1Malaysia dance troupe performed traditional Malay, Chinese and Indian dances.

There was also a tai chi, wushu and Chinese musical instrument demonstration. Members of the 24 drums troupe and face changing show kept the entertainment beat going. Kids were treated to a special magic show.

Guests-of-honour were the Sultan of Perak Sultan Azlan Shah and wife Raja Permaisuri Perak Tuanku Bainun.

Raja Muda Raja Dr Nazrin Shah and wife Raja Puan Besar Tuanku Zara Salim, Raja Di Hilir Raja Jaafar Raja Muda Musa and wife Raja Puan Muda Raja Nor Mahani Raja Shahar Shah and Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abd Kadir were also present.

Organising chairman Datuk Dr Mah Hang Soon, who is also a state exco member, said the event was aimed at promoting better racial ties and cultural understanding.

"This enables those from other communities to learn more about Chinese customs and traditions," said Mah, who is also the state MCA Youth chief. -- By Kalavaani Karupiah
