IPOH: The Perak government has set up a task force to expedite efforts to resolve problems faced by the Chinese community, particularly land matters.
State MCA Youth chief Datuk Dr Mah Hang Soon, a state executive councillor, will head the task force.
MCA president Datuk Seri Dr Chua Soi Lek said the task force would look into problems like land use and conversion of land use.
He said Dr Mah had been instructed to find out the status of applications from the applicants.
"Solutions are on the way and I hope the people will be patient with us," said Dr Chua, the Perak MCA chairman.
Last month, Dr Chua had a dialogue with non-governmental organisations here. He said land problems topped the list, and those affected included vegetable farmers, fish and prawn breeders and pig rearers.
The lack of land for temples and non-Muslim burial plots were other concerns in the state, Dr Chua said during the Perak MCA Chinese New Year open house at SJKC Yuk Choy here yesterday. Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abdul Kadir, the guest-of-honour, was among the 1,000 people at the event.
Dr Chua also said Barisan Nasional would only promise the people what the coalition could deliver, and would deliver as promised.
He said Barisan had done a lot for the people in Perak in the last two years, especially in helping the poor.
Dr Chua said Dr Zambry had told him the poor in Perak, for instance, were given more than RM100 each, but the opposition had portrayed it in such a way that they (opposition) were the ones giving the cash incentive.
Dr Chua said he hoped the people would recognise the fact that Barisan would not be able to meet all the demands from any one race. But no one race in the country would be left out, he added.
