Alor Setar: 56-year-old assistant engineer from the Kedah Road Transport Department was arrested on Tuesday by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) for money laundering and possessing RM1,113,250 believed to have been obtained from illegal activities.
State MACC director Datuk Mohd Fauzi Mohamad said the man was arrested at the Commission's office here after he was called in for questioning.
"He will be investigated under Section 4(1)(b) of the Anti-Money-Laundering, Anti- Terrorism Financing and Proceeds of Unlawful Activities Act 2001.We are investigating his involvement in money laundering and possession of the money," he said in a statement.
The assistant engineer will be charged at the Alor Setar court on Wednesday.
