Culprit in letterhead con identified, says MB

IPOH: Police have identified the culprit who used fake letterheads of the Perak state government and that of other state government agencies to cheat businessmen.

Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abd Kadir confirmed this, but said no arrests have been made yet and police were still investigating the matter.

He, however, declined to reveal whether there was more than one culprit involved in the cheating.

Dr Zambry said police started investigations following reports lodged by the state government on the use of the fake letterheads and the subsequent cheating of businessmen and the public.

He said several cases had surfaced since last year.

"These unscrupulous people have tarnished the image of the state government," he told reporters after attending the state Gerakan Chinese New Year open house here yesterday.

Last week, Dr Zambry said that those behind the fake letterheads were also using pictures of him taken with them during meet-the-people events to con their victims.

He had not ruled out the possibility of insider involvement in the matter.
