Annual pre-tax profit at Maybank topped the RM10bil mark for the first time in the financial year ended Dec 31, 2017 (FY17).
Therefore, the employees of the bank will be getting big bonuses now.
Apart from the normal payout from the bonus pool, non-executives such as clerks and security guards will receive a one-off payment of up to RM1,750 each.
The bonuses will be credited to all eligible Maybankers today.
Sources said that bankers whose remuneration is based on performance are likely to get good payouts after the bank's sterling performance in 2017.
Maybank made history in the middle of last year for becoming the first Malaysian company to be worth more than RM100 billion.
Today, its market capitalization now stands at RM113 billion.
Banks are a mirror of the health of the economy. If the economy is not good, banks do not perform well - proving yet again that the negative propaganda of the opposition that Malaysia is in crisis or going bankrupt is wrong.
